What is Microneedling?
Microneedling is based on the skin’s natural ability to repair itself whenever it encounters physical injury. The Microneedling device moves across the skin making pinpoint punctures called microchannels which trigger the new collagen production in the skin.
Microneedling Treatments have two key benefits - it effectively stimulates collagen formation and provide a clear channel for topical serums and active ingredients to be absorbed through the surface of the skin.
What does Microneedling treat?
Microneedling can treat several common skin conditions on all skin types on all areas of the face and body. Microneedling is ideal to treat:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Acne scarring
- Pigmentation
- Surgical or trauma scars
- Stretch marks
Microneedling will help to lift, tighten and rejuvenate the skin as well as allowing for deeper penetration of products into the skin. Any area of the body can be treated including the hard to reach areas such as eyes and nose.
Microneedling Treatment - Frequently asked questions
Do I need to prepare my skin before treatment?
Before any microneedling treatments it is best to have skin make up free and cleaned thoroughly as well as avoiding sun exposure for 24 hours prior. Your therapist will prepare the skin properly before treatment.
How does the treatment feel?
Microneedling treatment is relatively pain free and feels like a light vibrating sensation on the skin with very light pressure applied.
How will my skin look after the treatment?
Skin reaction depend on the individual, however skin will appear pink/red for around 24 hours. Other reactions after the treatment may include tightness & slight flacking. Skin will be back to normal within 7 days.
How many treatments will I need?
Generally, for optimum results, a course of treatments will take place every 6 weeks for a series of 3-6 treatments. This is dependant on what is being treated.
How does microneedling compare to other skin rejuvenation treatments?
Microneedling offers treatments for all skin types without the need for any anaesthetic with minimal downtime.
What is the downtime after a microneedling treatment?
Localised erythema may last up to 2 days post treatment. Mineral based make up may be used after 24 hours and most can return to normal activities after microneedling treatments.
Aftercare
Please avoid the following activities for up to two days following a Dermapen clinical procedure:
- Direct UV exposure
- Intensive cardio
- Excessively hot showers
- Further clinical treatment including microdermabrasion, laser, IPL, chemical peels, dermal fillers
- Spray or self-tanning
- Swimming in cholrine pools or the oceans
- Tattooing (including cosmetic tattooing)
Light oil-free make up may be applied 24 hours
